After a successful cohort 1, we are thrilled to launch our second cohort on 25th February 2017

During the previous acceleration program, we had brought international investors and mentors to nurture and support the nine startups we had selected for our first cohort in the last summer. Of the nine, five startups have successfully raised the next round (angel) of funding with an average raise of Rs. 57 lakhs and the highest raise at Rs. 1 crore.

In this cohort, Spark10 has picked up five startups for its second cohort which will be run from The Hive, collaborative workspaces at Virtuous Retail’s integrated lifestyle development – VR Bengaluru.

This cohort includes a startup that’s using artificial intelligence to drive market intelligence to advertisers, a stock and market analytics engine that helps individual investors to make better buy/sell decisions, an internet based community focused on beauty and trends, an AI based cognitive technology & data genome company and a startup that’s revolutionizing information security and a customizable cross-industry CRM platform.

We are really excited about the new set of companies that are part of it. We would like to invite you to our Launch Event on 25th Feb – #Spark10Origins to support and encourage these companies.

Paul Smith has kindly agreed to share his experiences in his Keynote address – “Building a Startup Ecosystem That Works!” Atal and Gouri (Director of Spark10) will also address our next big project related to cross-border investments that would interest many of investors and founders.

We are looking forward to meeting you all at the event. Don’t forget to RSVP.

Startup Hunt – On the lookout for the next cohort!

Good startups and teams are like treasures and to find them is like a treasure hunt.
coffee-6

And if you want to find a treasure you generally go to the place where the rumors tell you they are! Our December road trip is a treasure hunt of sorts, where Spark10 is looking for 10 great startups to induct into its next batch of the acceleration program. (You can read more about the program here <www.spark10.com/program> and answers to most FAQs here <www.spark10.com/faqs>, and because it’s all well documented, I’ll spare you the trouble of reading it here.)

One question that comes up from that is, “What do we consider as a great startup, at least in the context of the next cohort?”

The answer is simple. We are looking for teams that are working on something game-changing, something (I’m sorry to use the cliche) disruptive. Why? Because the brouhaha about startup scene is slowly fading in India. Investors are wisening up and understand that putting their hard-earned money on just any startup will not do. They want to invest in good teams, techs, and ideas now. Gone are the days when they’d invest in a regular, run-of-the-mill digital shops.

Okay, so why are we still on the road? Well, there’s an age-old proverb that talks about bringing the horse to the pond. You know the one! Many good startup founders, sometimes, don’t know that they need a good support system to grow. Either they are busy building what they are building in silos, or have this misconception that they are really good and don’t need anyone’s help to really know how to take their business to the next level. Also, there is always a possibility that despite all our marketing efforts, the word hasn’t reached into every garage and basement (figurative, since in India, we seldom have a basement or a garage).

We are on the road for this kind of startups and their founders.

We are going to Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi. We are inviting applications from other cities and towns as well, just as we are inviting applications from some incubation or entrepreneurship cells of some premier engineering colleges. We want to make sure that we leave no stone unturned before we ask investors to have a look at the startups and (metaphorically) adopt one of them through the acceleration program.

Fortunately, for startup founders, we are not as unpredictable as the Google maps car/van. You’ll know when we are in your city well ahead of time and so, you don’t have to camp out on the roads waiting for us to pass by.

I’ll see you in these cities soon. Schedules will be posted soon. In the meantime, fill in the application form by clicking here.

Cheers

Warrier
